Description
'Le fils de l'homme' is perhaps the most well-known artwork from René Magritte. The painting consists of a man in an overcoat and a bowler hat standing in front of a low wall, beyond which are the sea and a cloudy sky. The man's face is largely obscured by a hovering green apple. It was the mystery, the sense of wonder, that attracted Magritte and made him so different from most of his fellow Surrealists.

Reviews
René Magritte
A Belgian Surrealist known for his wit, René Magritte painted ordinary objects in impossible contexts to challenge our perception of reality. Famous for bowler hats, floating rocks, and green apples, his work asks the viewer to question what they see—most famously in 'The Treachery of Images' (This is not a pipe). His art is intellectual, mysterious, and endlessly thought-provoking.
